Port of Melbourne – Port Rail Transformation Project

In my role as lighting design lead and project manager for the Port Rail Transformation Project at the Port of Melbourne — Australia’s busiest port — I oversaw the lighting design for the upgraded infrastructure.

Lighting in service of operations

The project exists to support smoother rail operations, reduce truck congestion and lower emissions. That defines the terms for the lighting: it exists to support safe and efficient operation around the clock, for personnel and machinery alike, rather than to present the port.

Coordination across three organisations

Working with WSP, Seymour Whyte and the Port of Melbourne, I coordinated a lighting strategy that enhanced safety and operational efficiency together, aligning it closely with the project’s sustainability goals.
