I'm a lighting designerbased in Melbourne.
I work across infrastructure, architecture, public spaces and light art, mostly around Australia.
Working across architecture, infrastructure, public spaces, light art and everything else in between.
I got into lighting through theatre, where I first discovered how dramatically light can transform a space and influence the way people feel and interact with it. Since then, I've worked across architecture, infrastructure and public spaces, including transport, ports, commercial developments, heritage projects, sports facilities, hospitality and light art.
A large part of my work is technical. Lighting has to meet standards, work within budgets and be practical to build, so I work closely with architects, engineers and contractors to make sure those requirements are met. But I care just as much about what happens once the lights are switched on.
Good lighting can make a space feel welcoming, comfortable, safe or memorable. It shapes how people experience an environment, often without them even realising it. Seeing people use and enjoy a project as intended is still the most rewarding part of my job.
I also create light art and temporary installations, particularly for festivals and public events. While the briefs are often more creative, the thinking is much the same. It's about understanding a place, considering how people will experience it, and using light to create something meaningful.
