AIDA – Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour

Opera · Sydney Harbour

Themed site lighting for an open-air opera on Sydney Harbour, matched to a contemporary and lavish production.

In 2015 I played a key role in the site lighting design for AIDA — Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, directed by Gale Edwards, working alongside designer Mark Thompson.

Themed lighting across the site

I developed the lighting for a range of site elements: themed lighting for the onsite restaurants, bars and entrances, together with the illumination of the surrounding trees. As with the site work generally, this covered everywhere the audience goes other than the stage.

Matching a lavish production

The design enhanced the immersive experience of the event and was developed to align with the production’s contemporary and lavish aesthetic, so that the site and the staging read as one production rather than a performance with a venue around it.
