Little Siagon Welcome Arch

As part of the Firefly Point of View team, I contributed to the lighting design for the Little Saigon Welcome Arch, an iconic structure celebrating Vietnamese culture and heritage in Footscray. I worked on the project as an intermediate lighting designer.

Lighting the symbolism

The arch carries architectural elements inspired by traditional Vietnamese symbols — cranes, the turtle shell and bronze drum motifs. The lighting was developed to highlight those elements specifically, so that what the structure is saying remains legible after dark rather than being reduced to a single illuminated silhouette.

A monument for the whole community

The intent throughout was to honour the Vietnamese community’s success and history, and to create a welcoming and meaningful monument for all visitors.
