A vast resort property unified by lighting, using low glare and restrained accents so that the setting itself remains the subject.
As part of the Firefly Point of View team, I contributed to the lighting design for the Shangri-La Mauritius, focusing on enhancing the property’s beauty and elegance. I worked on the project as an intermediate lighting designer.
Low glare, and what it protects
The approach emphasised low-glare lighting together with strategic accents that highlight the natural surroundings and the architectural detail. Glare is the specific risk at a property of this kind: control it and the natural surroundings remain part of the guest’s experience after dark rather than disappearing behind the lighting meant to reveal them.
Unifying a large property
Working collaboratively, the team unified the vast property through lighting that elevates its luxury and tranquillity, creating a visually striking and memorable guest experience across the whole site rather than a series of individually resolved areas.
